Inspired by the notion of “unbecoming” — a process of unlearning, transforming, and moving beyond the identities and expectations placed upon us — ‘A Room for Unbecoming Women’ creates an imagined space where different stories of womanhood can unfold.
The gallery becomes a room of memories, emotions, and personal experiences — a space to reflect on who we are, who we have been told to become, and the many ways we continue to change.

TABOO
Taboo is a contemporary art exhibition that explores the invisible boundaries society places around censored narratives. It examines taboo as a social construct — exposing the relationship between repression and control, shame and identity, secrecy and power.
Interested in questioning how taboos are formed, who defines them, and why certain experiences are silenced across cultures and generations, a collective of artists are sharing their stories and concepts of cultural and familial taboos. Some of them include shame surrounding sexuality, mental health, grief, and social status, passed through generations, the worshiping or regulation of the body, political and power affairs, circulating around the judgement on desire, addiction, obsession, and the tension between freedom and moral control.

TRANSIENT INFO
Transient Info is a virtual exhibition that reflects on the post-digital condition, shaped by the incessant, fragmented and volatile flow of information. Its ephemeral nature—generated, multiplied and dissolved within seconds—transforms not only social experience but also the aesthetics of digital art.
In this landscape of informational excess, where data is no longer an exception but an environment, digital artefacts coexist with hybrid materialities, unstable memories and identities in constant reconfiguration. The exhibition brings together works that explore this territory of transience, challenging notions of archive, authorship, permanence and meaning.

Behind the Closed Door
Once the door is closed, the world behind it becomes invisible to outsiders.
Inside, is it a place of warmth and shelter, or a silent battlefield? The home may appear detached from the public sphere, yet it mirrors the power structures of society—where love and control, protection and oppression intertwine.
This exhibition focuses on the space of the “home” and the dynamics of power within it, seeking to reveal the hidden stories and emotional narratives concealed behind closed doors, challenging the singular definition of what home means.
Here, the home is not only a refuge, but also a site of confinement and suppression, as well as a witness to resilience and resistance. Familial relationships drift between affection and conflict, while unspoken stories accumulate in silence, becoming buried histories.

This set of films explore how the food we eat is directly related to the capitalist cycle of labour and consumption. Sianne Ngai describes these emotions as indicators of social conditions of powerlessness and frustration, stemming from the injustices and inequalities of late capitalist life. These "unprestigious negative affects" are often associated with situations in which agency is blocked or suspended. By engaging with these themes, we can recognise the passive and ambivalent states that shape our emotional experiences and question the connections between aesthetics and politics.

Mres RCA 2024 Research Journeys
The MRes RCA is interdisciplinary: students from the fields of architecture, communication, design, fine art and the experimental humanities come together in a single programme to think about their practice as transforming, and as being transformed by, work in other disciplines. Students come to us to pursue a project of their choosing. Assured in their practices as artists, for example (or as writers, curators, architects, product designers, visual communicators – and the list goes on), students come to develop their knowledge on a topic that feels vital to them, which they filter through their practice. They come to us as practitioners. Drawing on methods from across disciplines, we teach them how to become researchers, too.

Fragment for the Future; Movement
Fragments for the Future includes works by MRes students across the discipline specialisms of Architecture, Communication, Design, Fine Art, and Experimental Humanities. This two-part exhibition is divided by a structure of stillness and movement, with the first installation being one of objects displayed primarily on the floor and leant against walls and the second installation focusing on time-based works including moving image and live works. Each show creates cascades of folds or sequences of affects; subjects and objects tangled together.

Whispers of the unseen: Sonic Alchemy

Profile (Sample)
Iris Lingyu Zhang (b. 1997, Beijing) is a multimedia artist and researcher working between London and Beijing. Her emotionally immersive works span digital and installation-based media, exploring feminist inquiries into the body, space, and desire. Drawing on psychology and philosophy, her practice negotiates identity, intimacy, and cultural memory through porous visual forms.
Iris holds a Master of Research from the Royal College of Art and pursuing her second Master’s degree in Fine Arts at Goldsmiths, University of London. She has exhibited internationally, with recent shows including international Biennale THE WRONG, Visions in the Nunnery 2025 at London Bow Art Gallery, Permeate in Vienna, and Instante in São Paulo. Her work has also been presented at IKLECTIK, Hundred Years Gallery, and The Handbag Factory, among others.
